LCA CARE Project Calls for 5 National Experts to Support SME Testing
The LCA CARE project is entering an important new phase: moving from learning and development into practical application.
To support this process, one expert will be appointed in each partner country: Bulgary, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal and Spain. These experts will work closely with national SMEs, helping them explore the LCA CARE Tool and understand how Life Cycle Assessment can support more sustainable business decisions. As part of their role, the experts will attend the LCA CARE course “Applied Life Cycle Assessment for Environmental Auditors”, which started on November 3rd 2026. The course will provide them with the knowledge and practical preparation needed to guide SMEs throughout the testing phase.
Each of the five experts will support at least five national SMEs, preferably companies already taking part in the LCA CARE course. Together, they will select one product from each company and assess its environmental impact using the LCA CARE Tool. At the end of the process, each SME will generate its own LCA report, sharing its experience of using the tool. The experts will naturally accompany the SMEs throughout this journey, helping them move from the initial product selection to the completion of the assessment. Their role will be both practical and analytical: they will support the companies while also observing how the tool performs in real business contexts.
Following the testing process, it is expected that each expert will prepare a review for every participating SME, that will capture the main outcomes of the experience, highlight strengths and identify areas where the tool or the support process could be improved. They will also offer their own professional perspective on the course, the tool and the testing activities. This collaboration between experts and SMEs will provide valuable insights from different national contexts and professional backgrounds. More importantly, it will help ensure that the LCA CARE Tool is practical, accessible and genuinely useful for agri-food businesses seeking to understand and reduce their environmental impacts.
The evaluation of applications is currently underway. Further information about the selected experts and the results of the testing phase will be shared through the LCA CARE website and social media channels.
